ChatterBudz (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is operated by Territory Cybernetics Pty Ltd in Australia. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile applications (ChatterBudz Chat, ChatterBudz Pay, and ChatterBudz Play) and website (collectively, the “Services”).
About Our Apps
The ChatterBudz ecosystem consists of three applications:
- ChatterBudz Chat: A privacy-first messaging application for general users (ages 13+)
- ChatterBudz Pay: A payment management application for individuals and families
- ChatterBudz Play: A curated media library application designed for families with parental controls
Information We Collect by App
ChatterBudz Chat
- Account data: email address, display name, profile photo, and user ID
- Messages & communications: messages, images, and attachments you send. Messages are encrypted and we do not read your direct messages.
- Friend connections: friend requests sent and received, contact information (if you choose to sync contacts)
- App usage data: app version, device model, OS, language, crash logs, and performance metrics
- Notification preferences: push notification settings and email notification preferences
ChatterBudz Pay
- Account data: email address, display name, and user ID
- Payment information: payment titles, amounts, due dates, categories, and recurring payment schedules
- Transaction data: payment history, status (paid/unpaid/overdue), spending patterns, and payment groups
- App usage data: app version, device model, OS, language, crash logs, and performance metrics
- Cloud sync data: payment data synchronized across your devices
ChatterBudz Play
- Account data: email address, display name, and user ID
- Profile data: user profiles (names, avatars) for family members, including parent/admin profiles
- Content library: media items you add (titles, descriptions, categories, URLs), viewing history, and preferences
- Parental control settings: PIN codes, profile access controls, and content management preferences
- App usage data: app version, device model, OS, language, crash logs, and performance metrics
Common Data (All Apps)
- Authentication data: email, password (hashed), authentication tokens
- Device information: device identifiers, IP address (for security and abuse prevention)
- Analytics data: aggregated usage statistics, feature usage, error reports (anonymized where possible)
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide Services: Deliver core app functionality, maintain your account, and enable features
- Security & Safety: Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, security threats, and enforce our Terms of Use
- Improve Services: Analyze usage patterns, diagnose issues, and enhance app performance and features
- Communications: Send you important service updates, security alerts, and (where you opt in) promotional communications

Sharing & transfers
We do not sell personal data. We use trusted cloud service providers for infrastructure, analytics, diagnostics, storage, and notifications (e.g., cloud hosting services, Apple/Google push notification services). These providers only act on our instructions and under appropriate data protection terms. Your core application data is stored in secure cloud databases with encryption and access controls. Data may be processed outside Australia; when it is, we apply safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses and ensure providers meet equivalent data protection standards.
Data retention
We keep data for as long as necessary to provide the Services, comply with law, resolve disputes, and maintain security. You may delete your account in the app to remove personal information (subject to legal retention).

Age Requirements and Children's Privacy
ChatterBudz Chat: This app is intended for users 13 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete that information promptly.
ChatterBudz Pay: This app is intended for users 13 years of age and older. Users under the age of majority should use this app with parental supervision.
ChatterBudz Play: This app is designed for family use with parental controls. While children may use the app under parent/admin profiles, the account holder (parent/admin) must be at least 18 years old. Parents are responsible for managing their children's use of the app and the content they access. We collect minimal data from child profiles (profile name, avatar, viewing preferences) and this data is managed by the parent/admin account holder.
Security
We use technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:
- Encryption: All data is encrypted in transit using TLS/SSL and encrypted at rest in our secure cloud database.
- Database security: We implement Row Level Security (RLS) policies at the database level, ensuring users can only access their own data and authorized content.
- Authentication: Secure authentication mechanisms protect access to your accounts.
- Access controls: Strict access controls limit who can view or modify your personal information.
No system is 100% secure, but we continuously improve our safeguards and monitor for security threats.
Third-party links & services
Our Services may link to third-party sites or use third-party SDKs. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.

App-Specific Privacy Notes
ChatterBudz Chat
Your messages are encrypted in transit. Direct messages are not read or monitored by us. We use end-to-end encryption where technically feasible. Friend search requires a complete email address and does not expose user directories for privacy protection.
ChatterBudz Pay
We do not process actual payments or store payment card details. We only store payment information you manually enter (bill names, amounts, due dates) to help you manage and track payments. Financial data is encrypted at rest. We use cloud synchronization to sync your payment data across devices securely.
ChatterBudz Play
Parent/admin accounts have full control over content and user profiles. Children's profile data is minimal and controlled by the parent/admin account. Content you add (media URLs, metadata) is stored securely. We do not monitor or filter the content you add; parents are responsible for curating appropriate content.
